Claire Sexton, Trustee
I joined the board of trustees in September 2018 and I am excited to be further involved, having greatly enjoyed supporting a Dementia Adventure holiday in Cornwall in 2017.
I’m a neuroscientist at the University of California San Francisco and University of Oxford. My research uses cognitive and neuroimaging methods to examine how modifiable factors (like sleep and physical activity) can promote healthy brain ageing. Alongside my academic research, I have a passion for raising awareness and reducing stigma about dementia and communicating the latest research findings to diverse audiences. For example, as a Dementia Friends Champion and member of the National Champions Forum (2015 – 2017), I delivered information sessions on how we can make our communities more dementia friendly, and organized a number of events to bring together people living with dementia, caregivers, community organizations and researchers to help increase awareness and improve inclusion and quality of life.
