What do you do for Dementia Adventure?
With my excellent team I manage all things marketing, comms and design. Our mission is to showcase the benefits and impact of the work we do here and show that it is possible to live better with dementia. A typical day may include creating an article for a publication, designing new marketing materials, creating films, training materials…or all the above!
Do you have any other roles in the organisation?
As part of the Senior Management Team I contribute to the focus and direction of our charity and I’ve seen huge growth and change in the time I’ve been here.
What’s the best thing about your job?
Seeing the real difference we make to the lives of people living with dementia and working with the talented team of people that make up our organisation, are two of the best things about my job.
What makes you want to work for Dementia Adventure?
Each year we publish our ‘Impact Report’. It shows our growth and all the impact we have on helping people live better with dementia. What’s most inspiring for me is the amazing quotes from people with dementia and their family and professional carers. Typically people have a new lease of life and are hugely thankful for the quality time that they get to experience with the people they love and care for.
What’s the best advice you have ever been given?
When I started working at Dementia Adventure I attended one of our family carer support workshops. This was some of the best advice that I took from that session. Firstly, for someone with dementia the deterioration of memory does not mean that person has disappeared. They are changed, but still there. Secondly, even though someone with dementia may not remember the fun activities or good things you do for them, you still make a difference—both to them and to you. See through their eyes and live in the moment.
