If you are living with dementia or care for someone who is, you may feel that holidays are no longer an option, but perhaps traditional models of respite that separate families may not be what you are looking for. At Dementia Adventure we think differently about dementia, focusing on what people can do, rather than what they can’t.
Which is why we offer unique small group, supported breaks for people with dementia and their partners, family, friends or carers to enjoy together. Our late summer holiday destinations are now available for booking. A dementia diagnosis does not need to mean the end of holidays. We understand, and we are here to support you to have the break you deserve. We welcome people with all types of dementia and can arrange personal care if necessary.
We have added dates to all of our favourite destinations, from Cornwall, Devon and the Isle of Wight in the South, to the Lake District and Northumberland in the North. Of course, we’ve not forgotten popular favourites such as Norfolk, Maldon Sailing and Yorkshire too. We’re very pleased to have added a new destination for this summer – in the garden of England – Kent.
Evidence shows our holidays increase the well-being of both the person with dementia and their partner or carer during and after the holiday:
“(During the holiday) she woke up to being a real social butterfly, started eating food, sleeping through the night and joining in with activities. I am sure the team wondered what we had been worried about—the lady they saw was very different to the lady who was discharged from hospital a few days before! The transformation over the week was incredible to see.”
“From the carer’s point of view it’s a long term benefit. The DA holiday gave the best of both worlds. I got a holiday, a break and to spend time with the man I wanted to be with.”
“A positive fun time for the Carer and the Person With Dementia. Very well led, and supportive staff who instinctively knew how to cope with our needs.”
The price that our clients paid covers a third of the holiday programme cost. Thanks to Players of People’s Postcode Lottery*, and our fundraising, we are able to reduce the cost of these life-changing holidays, making them possible for people who might otherwise not be able to afford them.
Our trained team and expertly planned itineraries mean that you can have the break you have been hoping for. If a small group holiday is not for you, perhaps you might like a bespoke holiday? Ideal for groups of friends or families who want to travel together—please contact us for more information.
“Must be done to be believed! A miracle of a holiday, will sign up for another asap!”
