Mike, 59, lives in Essex. He was inspired to run for us when he read about our supported short breaks and our free events for family carers, as dementia is a condition close to his heart. Both of his parents lived with dementia, he says his father “lived his life for one sole purpose, to look after Mum, always”. Despite the challenges that Mike and his family faced in caring for their parents, they always understood the impact that getting outdoors and remaining active had on their parents well-being. He says,
“The brightest moments in their last months/year were when they took that step into the outside, into the open, into the garden … but getting them to take that step, out into what previously was their love, particularly their garden was tough. The work that Dementia Adventure carry out is brilliant.”
Mike lives a very active lifestyle both in working on his farm and in being a keen runner. He wants to encourage more people to connect with nature and the outdoors.
The Virgin Money London Marathon is a 26.2 mile run starting in Greenwich in the South East of the city and ending at St James’ Park in the West.
To boost his fundraising Mike has already planned a quiz night, alongside his marathon. If you would like to sponsor Mike, please click here.
