Most of us know someone who has been affected by dementia. Until there is a cure, we need ways of living better with this condition.
Through our training, consultation and supported dementia holidays, we consistently see the real change that outdoor activity brings into the lives of people with dementia and their carers. Our work encourages us to think differently about dementia, to take advantage of the amazing natural resources that we have on our doorstep and create opportunities for people to get outdoors, connect with themselves, their loved ones, their community, and retain a sense of adventure in their lives.
As a charity we depend on people like you. Your donations help us reduce the cost of our supported dementia holidays. Your support also helps us provide free dementia training for family carers and undertake research into the benefits of outdoor activity.
If you or someone you love is living with dementia you may feel that holidays are no longer an option. Perhaps, traditional models of respite that separate families don’t appeal to you. We may have the answer. We offer small group, supported holidays for people with dementia and their partners, family, friends or carers to enjoy together.
Our holidays are subsidised through fundraising to enable as many people living with dementia to benefit as possible. Our trained team and expertly planned itineraries mean you can have the holiday you have been hoping for. Whether you want to relax by the coast or walk up mountains, we have something for everyone—please take a look at our holidays for 2018. We welcome people with all types of dementia and can arrange personal care if necessary.
If a small group holiday is not your thing, perhaps you might like a bespoke holiday? Ideal for groups of friends or families who want to travel together.
Our team of qualified and experienced trainers deliver a range of training and bespoke support.
We have supported thousands of people to think differently about dementia and positive risk taking.
We draw on our experience of delivering positive nature and outdoor based holidays and activities for people living with dementia, to help a range of individuals and organisations to negotiate the barriers which prevent people from living well with dementia.
We equip small groups of delegates (usually between eight and 12 people per training session) with the evidence; practical skills and confidence to help people living with dementia to retain a sense of adventure in their lives.
We offer ‘off the shelf’ training, such as ‘Thinking Differently about Dementia‘, ‘Nature in Mind‘, ‘Risky Business‘ and ‘Walk Leader Training‘. We also offer bespoke Training and Consultancy. If you like the work we do, you can replicate it in your area, with our fully-supported social licence.
Research is one of our key objectives as a charity. We are evidence-led so it underpins all that we do to benefit those living with dementia.
Through the publication and sharing of reports and films we inspire people to understand what is possible. We provide practical solutions focused on positive risk-taking to support people with dementia to benefit from nature based or outdoor activities.
Our 2020 research vision, led by CEO Neil Mapes, is to expand the awareness, resources and availability of nature based, positive risk-taking activities for people living with dementia.
