Do you support someone living with dementia or know somebody who does?

Dementia can be an isolating condition without the additional challenge of social distancing. We want to ensure people living with dementia, their family and friends are not alone at this difficult time. These FREE Dementia Skills Sessions are designed to help you think differently about dementia and give you practical guidance to help you in your supportive role.

You can safely connect with qualified dementia trainers and other dementia carers, learn more about dementia and receive practical tips to help you in your supportive role.  The training also includes tips on how to keep busy and active during this time, particularly around enjoying the outdoors on your doorstep which we know can have a hugely positive effect on the wellbeing of all of us including people living with dementia. Many families are struggling with caring from a distance and these sessions might just give you a few ideas. It is really easy to join and you receive full instructions on how to access the training.

In each 2 hour session our qualified trainers cover:

 – Understanding dementia and the common symptoms

 – Continuing to see the person (not the condition)

 – Strategies to overcome communication barriers

 – Practical tips to connect with a person with dementia

 – The benefits of contact with nature and the outdoors

 – Information about other support available to you

You will have the opportunity to ask individual questions while joining other people in a similar situation.

This support is only made possible through donations including the player’s of the People’s Postcode Lottery. If you would like to make a donation to enable us to support more people with dementia at this critical time please click here.

A Note to Professionals

If you are in paid work supporting people with dementia you are welcome to join one of our free, online Dementia Skills Sessions. These training sessions are based on a key building block in our training programme: Thinking Differently About Dementia.

While these unique sessions currently are aimed primarily at friends and family supporting a loved one with dementia, they also offer an invaluable opportunity to develop your skills, experience and practice.

Invaluably, you will also hear first hand the experiences of friends and family supporting loved ones with dementia.

The sessions are free, but booking is essential. Dates and booking below.

Feedback from previous events:

This is something everyone living with a relative with dementia should attend.
I feel so much more positive leaving the session than when I walked through the door.
It’s made me feel less alone and more optimistic on this journey.
